Robert Gillmor


Born Reading Berkshire. Lives Norfolk. Studied at Reading University (Fine Art). Taught art of Leighton Park School from 1959-65 when he became full-time illustrator. Influences were his grandfather, Seaby, Ennion, and Tunnicliffe. Paints in watercolour but has drawn many pen and ink illustrations. His distinctive linocut designs have been used for magazine covers and book jackets. Has served on the councils of BOU and RSPB. Co-founder of SWLA and mentor to many promising younger artists. Has illustrated many articles, books and Christmas cards for BTO and RSPB. Art editor of the Birds of the Western Palearctic. Has designed covers of New Naturalist Series for Harper Collins since 1988. President of Reading Art Guild (1969-86) SWLA, Hon Secretary 1964-74, Chairman 1974-84, President ;1984-94., Vice-President since 1994.
